ABOUT Sam Schikora (he/they) is a theatre artist, designer, and technician. Sam earned their BA in Entertainment Design & Technology with a minor in Theatre Arts from Eastern Michigan University in 2021. Focusing in lighting design, they gained their early experience working with the EMU Theatre and Dance departments, becoming familiar with a variety of staged events in both intimate and larger spaces. As a Scene Shop Technician for EMU Theatre, they learned numerous practical skills outside of a classroom setting, gaining experience with sound, scenery, props, projections, stage management, and stage makeup. Sam contributed to nearly every production during their time there, and they were even awarded the John Briggs Endowed Scholarship for outstanding work in the Entertainment Design & Technology program.

Now, Sam does freelance design and technician work across southeast Michigan. Additional services they offer include theatre consulting, storage/shop organization, repertory plot drafting, and lighting inventory maintenance. Sam is also the Company Manager of Bug Pit Collaborative Arts, an Ypsilanti-based arts group that strives to celebrate the bugs of our community through experimental performances that include clowning, puppets, and devising techniques.
